Furthermore, an explosion or dropkick attack will launch them high into the air. Just like players, they will fall much slower and take no damage when falling. In the end I did let my son play it but only when I'm in the room with him but I think any older responsible teen will be able to play it with no influences.Unknown cosmic forces have also touched the infected. Other than that there is not much else to it. There is some drug usage but only for medicinal reasons so you can heal yourself or others. There is strong language through the game but it's infrequent and isn't heard or said much. At times the gore can be a bit over the top but it's nothing too serious and nothing a mature teen can't handle. So I asked my other son if he could show me the game and explain it all to me and so he did and I ended up having a lot of fun! The game isn't just about killing zombies, if anything it wants you to avoid fighting them, it involves many other things such as free running-aka climbing up buildings and jumping over things- as well as surviving. I said no at first because I had caught glimpses of my other son playing it and I didn't look appropriate just a lot of killing zombies however after a week or so of constant nagging I gave in and said I would check it out and see if he can play it. My eldest son (aged 15) really wanted this game and I have bought him 18 rated games in the past as I know he is responsible and mature and there isn't really much difference in 16 rated games however my younger son (aged 13) really wanted to play it. Overall, this game is for mature players, and if your child is old enough/mature enough, it should be fine.ĭying light is an incredible game, nothing is more satisfying than killing a zombie with a shovel. Almost every cutscene uses a handful of swear words, but it's nothing a high schooler doesn't hear at school. Language in this game is pretty salty, it uses a fair amount of four letter words, primarily f***k and s***t. Substance use boils down to finding alcohol around the world, but it's used for crafting. Apart from violence, the only other issue is language. All this violence is accompanied with some pretty gross noises and a hefty amount of blood. In one, a man's hand is put down on a box and cut off, and in another, characters are beheaded while another man loses his hand too. Cutscenes have scenes of intense moments and violence. When using a higher level sword, it's almost guaranteed that the enemy will lose a limb or be split in two (yes, sometimes human enemies too). Players can bludgeon zombies to death with hammers, pipes, and even wooden planks, which can sometimes result in a bloody explosion of the head. This is one of the most violent games I've ever played, the violence is extremely graphic and gory, and not for those with a weak stomach. I will let you know that if you can get passed the zombies having human form, than you should know that this is a great game for zombie slaying players.ĭying Light is a zombie game, so of course it'll have violence. Finally, in the full game, (which by the way, is still plenty violent) has some scary cutscenes that might frighten younger players, so know your kid. I found great joy in kicking zombies over the railing into a steep fall yelling "THIS IS SPARTA" or hurling an axe so that it sticks perfectly in the zombies head. This leads to the player using their imagination to kill zombies. One thing that I feel compelled to mention is that eventually, you learn how to do certain moves like throwing the weapon in your hand, or drop kicking a zombie. When shot in the head with a gun, any kind of enemy will have its head burst into gore. Almost every enemy I faced would eventually have a missing limb or an exposed chest, with very fair amounts of blood. A large portion of the enemies are zombies, but a small handful are human. Players can kick, smash, slash, shoot, ect enemies. Even in the demo, every 20 minutes I would come across some character and they'd drop a four letter word at least three times. Your child needs to understand that this is fictional and that the actions in this game should not be reproduced. I played the demo for this game for hours on end, and let me just tell you, this is not for any pre teen.
